Kitchener History

In 1784, the British granted the land that is now Kitchener to the Six Nations for their loyalty during the American Revolution. The Six Nations then sold 38,000 hectares of the land to Col. Richard Beasley in 1798. This land was purchased and farmed by German Mennonite families from Pennsylvania looking for a place to safely practice their beliefs. In 1912, Kitchener was incorporated as a city.
