Brandon, known as the “Wheat City of Canada,” is a city in southwestern Manitoba with a population of 48,859 (2016 estimate). The city lies on the Assiniboine River, 131 miles west of Winnipeg. It’s known for its regional arts and cultural facilities and for processing petroleum products, fertilizers, meat, and flour.

Brandon History

Brandon was first settled in the 1870s. It was formally founded in 1881 by General Thomas Rosser, who chose Brandon as the location for the major divisional point of the Canadian Pacific Railway. Hundreds migrated to Brandon to develop the rich farmland, and Brandon grew so rapidly that it became a city overnight. It was officially incorporated on May 30th, 1882.
